New homeowners in St. Louis uncovered a chilling surprise in their cellar when they moved into their new home, leading to a desperate rescue mission.

It's not unheard of for people to accidentally leave things behind when they move house. But leaving behind a pet is not something anyone would have expected.

While moving into a new home can be exciting and sometimes even emotional, for this family, it became an experience they'll likely never forget when they ventured into the cellar.

Startling discovery

Upon opening the door to the cellar, the new homeowner discovered a shocking sight that prompted an immediate call for help to a local animal rescue organisation. The cellar held an unexpected residence: a Pit Bull Terrier chained in the dark and filthy space. The family wasted no time contacting the Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.

According to the rescue organisation, many houses in the area are boarded up, hinting at a potential squatter situation.

New start for Jumping Bean

It's unclear what led to the dog's confinement in the cellar or how long it had been there, but it was clear the poor pup was relieved to be rescued. What unfolded next was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Despite the apparent neglect, the Pit Bull, later affectionately named Jumping Bean, couldn't hide his joy at being rescued. Remarkably, even after being abandoned in squalor, Jumping Bean harboured no resentment towards humans, exuding happiness and excitement at the prospect of getting a second chance.

Here's Jumping Bean's story:

Three-year-old Jumping Bean now lives at the Stray Rescue of St. Louis and is available for adoption. Hopefully, it won't take long for this brave and resilient canine to find a loving forever home and start living his best life.
