A black cat from Finland, known as the 'vampire cat,' is casting a spooky spell over the internet just in time for Halloween.

Toivo, a five-year-old Oriental Shorthair, has been captured on camera flaunting his fangs and channelling his inner furry Dracula.

Toivo’s proud owner, Tuomas Ikonen, shares photos of Toivo and his two feline siblings on an Instagram account, appropriately named “Meowrientals”, which has attracted 20,000 followers.

But while Toivo’s siblings, Hannu, a four-year-old ticked tabby, and Marsel, a one-year-old white oriental shorthair, are striking to look at, with his jet-black fur and piercing golden eyes, Toivo garners the most attention. He’s often compared to a bat, panther, or lizard rather than a traditional domesticated cat.

But rather than be spooked by Tovio, many cat lovers are enthralled by his elegant and distinct appearance.

Loving felines

Despite his vampire looks, Toivo is the calmest of the bunch and enjoys the company of humans, especially his owner's daughter, who often carries him around the house. However, all three are gentle, friendly, intelligent, and affectionate. Despite their appearance, they are anything but bloodsucking predators.

In the spirit of the Halloween season, Tuomas is keen to encourage potential cat owners to consider adopting black cats, who often face stigma and can struggle to find loving forever homes. So, whether you're looking for a vampire cat or any feline companion this October, be prepared for a 15 to 20-year commitment and provide them with the affection they deserve.

Do you think Toivo looks like a vampire cat?
