An employee stumbled upon a distressing sight on the shelter’s grounds in sub-zero temperatures by pure chance. They found an elderly, overweight dog huddled in a corner near the fence, perilously close to freezing to death.
Shocking discovery
How did this poor dog end up here? It’s believed that the heartless owners callously tossed her over the shelter’s high fence, abandoning her to the cruel elements.
The poor pup lay there, trembling in the cold, unable to move due to her excessive weight. Spending the night outdoors could have been a death sentence. The dog had no identification, no leash, collar, or microchip.

In their Facebook post, staff plead with readers for any information that could shed light on who is responsible. The dog, affectionately known as Waltraut, was transferred to the Rathenow animal shelter for her safety.
Sadly, the animal shelter later announced Waltraut’s passing. The staff believe she never recovered from the trauma she endured.
