The eerie silhouette lurking on the sand is enough to make your heart skip a beat. A few seconds in, viewers couldn't help but laugh.

When TikTok user lost_ptyer spotted a mysterious creature on the beach, she immediately started filming. The silhouette was unsettling, and she just couldn't work out what on earth she had stumbled upon.

"I thought it was a demon", explained one startled viewer, while another commented "my soul almost left my body".

A heart-stopping video

As the video begins, a black figure comes into focus. With long, straggly hair, the creature on the beach almost resembles a girl pushing herself up from the sand, covered in what looks to be some kind of oil.

The creepy image could be something out of a classic horror. Or a poor soul that has emerged from the sea after an oil spill and now finds themself trapped. What exactly is going on here?

The astonishing reality

As the brave Tiktoker lost_ptyer moves in a little closer, everything becomes much clearer. From terrifying to hilarious, it's suddenly obvious that the mysterious being is neither a little girl nor an animal covered in oil...

It's actually a sweet black dog, and she's absolutely soaking wet!

What initially looked like a girl's forearms, are the dog's back legs, and what seems to be hair is her fluffy tail.

The incredible optical illusion has entertained so many people on TikTok that it has now become a viral sensation. With 28 million views, this playful pup's beach antics have made her famous.
