Trevor may look like an ordinary Dachshund now, but his owner and vet were left baffled when he recently blew up to triple his size.

Trevor is a four-year-old Dachshund who recently became an overnight viral star, but unfortunately, it wasn’t for his adorable looks.

Inflated sausage dog

One morning Trevor’s devoted owner came downstairs to discover Trevor’s body had started to swell. To her astonishment, the little dog began to inflate to around three times his normal size. He looked more like a fat seal than a Dachshund; according to his owner, it was as if he didn’t have a neck.

She knew something must be terribly wrong, so she immediately rushed her beloved sausage dog to her local vet. But the vet was puzzled. There were no obvious signs of injury to Trevor’s body, which may have explained the swelling. They decided to X-ray Trevor to see if he had an injury to his respiratory tract or oesophagus.

X-ray reveals all

Sure enough, the x-ray revealed what had caused Trevor’s body to inflate. The vet discovered that Trevor had a punctured windpipe, which meant he would inflate every time he inhaled. The air was escaping through the hole in his windpipe.

Fortunately, while the situation was serious, the vet could stitch up the hole, which helped deflate Trevor and stop him from filling up with air.

Trevor recovered well from his surgery, and it’s hoped that this shouldn’t have any long-term effect on his health. Trevor’s owners say the little dog has a lovely, sweet personality and is always happily running about. He’s also quite cheeky and often lands himself in trouble, earning himself the nickname Tricky Trevor. At least he wasn’t too tricky for the vet to treat!
