The landlord had received several complaints from residents about an apartment he owned.
Shocking discovery
Neighbours complained about a foul odour and demanded the landlord sort it out. So he went over to the property to see what all the fuss was about. Sure enough, as he entered the apartment, he was greeted by a bad stench, but as he went further into the property, he discovered something he never expected.
As he entered the property, he first encountered several kittens. But that was just the start. As he made his way around the apartment, he counted 50 cats. All of the cats were in a dreadful state, emaciated and forced to live in rabbit cages. There was no sign of the tenant who’d last occupied the apartment. It was later discovered that while the tenant may no longer live there, he was using the property to breed cats.
Neglected and abandoned
The stunned landlord immediately called the local animal protection to inform them of his discovery, who soon arrived at the property with the police. The conditions the cats were living in were appalling and filthy, with officers having to regularly leave the property to go outside for air – the stench was so bad. There was poo everywhere and the cats had been left without sufficient food and water.
Five kittens and a male cat were removed from the property and taken to a shelter. However, to everyone's disbelief the vet insisted that no more cats should leave the property and the owner should have the chance to clean the apartment and get the cats examined by a vet. Meanwhile, a local animal rights is on the case and has offered to take all the cats in and care for them until the situation can be resolved. Hopefully, more cats will soon be freed from that awful nightmare.
