During the consultation, the dog owner asked the vet lots of questions about neutering, but then he started to steer the conversation to a very different topic.
Shocking realisation
The owner explained that his dog would escape from his farm, and neighbours would complain that the dog was attacking sheep. The man then admitted that he’d considered taking the dog to a shelter to be rehomed or to have the dog put down. The vet realised that the man didn’t really want his dog neutered; he wanted the animal put to sleep.
The man angrily left the clinic when the vet flatly refused to put down the otherwise healthy dog, fortunately, leaving the dog behind. The vet was furious that an owner could treat their pet like this. The owner had seemingly washed their hands of any responsibility, even refusing to pay for the transfer of ownership.
The clinic shared the pup’s story among their contacts, hoping to find a loving family to adopt it.
New home for Tana
It didn’t take long before Antonio and his family heard about the puppy and agreed to adopt her, giving her the name Tana. While Antonio says Tana is a well-behaved pup, he suspects she was previously badly treated. Tana has settled in well to her new home, getting to know her canine sibling and enjoying long country walks and good food. However, she recently got herself into a scrape.
While on a walk with her new family, Tana was hit by a car, causing serious damage to her leg and requiring a £1150 operation. However, as the dog was in so much pain, if they couldn’t afford the operation, Antonio was advised to put the dog to sleep.
But the devastated family refused and was determined to raise the money to pay for the operation. They turned to social media for help and had enough money to pay for the operation within just a few days.
Tana is now back at home after her operation and looking forward to getting back to enjoying her wonderful new life.
