A dog that developed a curved spine and bent legs from growing up in awful cramped living conditions finally gets the chance of a loving new start.

Landis the Pitbull arrived at Second Chance Rescue emaciated, with several health problems and deformities inflicted on him by his heartless owner.

Dreadful beginnings

The dog, previously called Gargoyle due to his misshapen body, was forced to grow up in a locked cage far too small for him. The terrible living conditions caused the tendons in his legs to rupture; he was also very small and underweight. Staff at the rescue estimated Landis to be between one and two years old. Everyone was heartbroken to see the state he was in, especially as he was such a sweet and loving dog.

As specialists decided surgery would be too painful for him, the poor pup had to endure a long recovery process. However, staff began seeing significant leg improvement as Landis gradually regained muscle strength. His legs may never be perfect, but the good news is that he's now pain-free.

Second chance

Once he'd recovered, it was time to find Landis a new home. Fortunately, he found the perfect place. After hearing his heartbreaking story, a family wanted to adopt him, which turned out to be a match made in heaven.

Just look at Landis now:

The family live near a beach, and the soft sand is great for Landis' delicate paws. They also have a large enclosed garden, so Landis has a safe place to play. His new owners take him for regular hydrotherapy sessions, and his leg strength continues to improve. But more importantly, Landis is surrounded by all the love he could dream of.

It's safe to say that Landis is finally living his best life.
