Meet Zarby, “Zarby was found abandoned in Romania with his siblings in June 2024. Zarby spent 4 Months in Kennels before moving to his current adoption home.
Zarby has been with his family for 5 Months however, they have made the unfortunate decision to surrender him due to him being very frightened of men which has been tricky with the male in the home and due to his fear of leads, collars and harnesses. Zarby's family have worked with behaviorists however have not made any progress and feel they can no longer work with him.
Zarby is very fearful of the male in his home, he will bark and growl at him which his family can find very difficult, he has however been around male visitors which he has been good with, he can be nervous of all visitors and will keep his distance initially however warms up after an hour or so and is very playful. He is more comfortable around women and older people.
Zarby has however built a very strong bond with the female in the home and is very affectionate. He is a very funny little character and is always making his family laugh. He often rolls over for a belly rub. He loves to be close by and loves human company.
Zarby would need a female primary carer in his home, he will need his ownership to be spread out equally so he doesn't grow attached to one specific person, he can live with men however they will need to be calm and dedicated to building his trust.
Zarby loves his food and is very food orientated and loves anything meaty, especially salmon. He won't go anywhere near a vegetable! He is a very playful boy who loves his soft and squeaky balls.
Zarby has been left alone for a few hours and has never shown any seperation anxiety. Zarby is very food motivated which also helps with his training” 💞
Zarby has never been around children, he could live with Older children 12+ following sensible introductions 👶
Zarby has not been around dogs since being in the UK however he has seen the neighbour's dogs and mostly ignores them, due to his anxious nature it is felt he would need another confident dog in the home to follow their lead 🐾
Zarby is very fearful of the collar, harness and lead and does not accept this, he will allow this near him however won't let this be put on. He has never shown any aggression and will just panic, try to escape and freeze with fear. He will need a very dedicated family willing to put the time and effort into training him on his lead for as long as it takes to build on his confidence.
Due to Zarby not going for walks he will need to be kept mentally stimulated. He loves searching for treats, chewing and digging in the garden 🐕🦺
Zarby can chase cats so would need a cat free home 🐈
Zarby is toilet trained but is not crate trained. He has never been destructive but can sometimes chew furniture when he is left alone, he has however been left alone for up to 5 hours with no issues. He sleeps very well overnight.
Zarby will need a very secure garden to ensure he cannot escape, his family will also need to be vigilant around windows and doors and he must be supervised at all times in the garden. He however loves being outside in the garden and does a very funny dance when his owner puts her coat on to take him outside 💞
