Nature can sometimes do some crazy things.
A beautiful GSD named Panama certainly proved this when she gave birth to a surprisingly large litter of puppies.
German Shepherd gives birth to huge litter
Panama had been followed closely during her pregnancy, and everything was running smoothly. Both she and her puppies were in perfect health.
However, the vets did notice that she was harbouring a rather large litter of puppies in her belly. The average litter size for German Shepherds is eight puppies, but it was clear that Panama would have more.
The vets decided that, to be on the safe side, it would be better if Panama gave birth via C-section. So, on the 21st of April, they put her under and started the surgery.
C-sections for dogs
And their predictions were correct. Panama was not a mother to eight puppies nor nine or 10. Indeed, Panama gave birth to 11 beautiful German Shepherd puppies, an exceptional amount for a GSD litter!
C-sections are quite rare in dogs, but this vet team went above and beyond to make sure everyone concerned made it through with flying colours. We are very pleased that Panama and her entire litter are now in perfect health!
