The village of Hokkien in Singapore is home to a lot of stray cats. But, thanks to the promise a man made to his dying mother, they’re all loved and looked after.

The elderly man, who has not been named, takes care of more than 10 cats every day and has been doing so for the last 20 years after making a promise to his dying mother.

He says simply,

“She told me to take care of the cats.”

And that’s exactly what he does although it’s not always easy. The man has had to take on a part-time job in order to care for their upkeep and asks for help from cat-loving friends.

It seems that while his mother only cared for a few cats, the man has adopted 10 moggies.

With ten cats to feed three times a day and the occasional vet bill, it doesn’t come cheap. According to an interview, there have even been times when he’s chosen to feed his cats over himself, but he could never bring himself to neglect them.

The future is uncertain

The cats know him and love him, but he now worries who will take over the role once he’s gone.

We hope that someone hears of his selfless act and takes over when the time comes.

We think the kitties of Hokkien are very lucky to have him!
