A big-hearted dog in San Francisco has found some unlikely friends during her walks, and now she insists on stopping by to visit them every day.

Dogs love nothing more than making new friends, even if that friend is a fraction of their size and lives underground. Something that Fiona's owner knows all too well.

Fiona is a two-year-old Great Pyrenees who enjoys taking a trip through Francisco's Golden Gate Park every day as a part of her daily walk. At some point during her walks, Fiona has realised that gophers have made the holes she sometimes sees in the ground.

She also discovered that if she waits patiently, one might pop out of the end of one of the holes to say hello. The gentle giant is so convinced that the gophers are popping up just to see her, that she insists on stopping during her walk to wait for them.

In a video shared by her owner on Instagram, Fiona waits patiently for one of her friends to pop up. When they do, Fiona is eager to say hello. The sweet pup doesn't try to bat or touch the gopher with her huge paw; instead, she just eagerly watches them.

Too busy to chat

Unfortunately for Fiona, while the gopher seems unperturbed by their visitor's substantial size, it is more focused on their digging rather than chatting back.

Her gopher visits have become such an important part of Fiona's daily dog walks, that she refuses to budge from the park until she's satisfied that she's greeted enough of her tiny rodent chums.
