This lovely dog adores watching over his family's ducks and chickens.
However, he has picked up a few bad habits. He regularly hops over the garden fence to go wandering, even though his family owns a fenced property of around two acres!
Setting off on an adventure
His owner, Whit Howe, knew their Anatolian Shepherd Dog had a habit of leaving the garden to explore a little. However, she had no idea just how far he was going...
That was until a neighbour handed her a rather unexpected document: a comprehensive five-page report complete with photos, detailing all of her dog's recent escapades!
A habitual escape artist
The first surprise for Whit was learning that Bear sometimes wanders along a nearby road in their American town. When a car comes past, he even lies down and refuses to budge, forcing drivers to steer around him carefully.
And that was not all! The dog had previously followed the neighbour all the way to church, where he strolled around the car park during a service.
The report also included CCTV footage showing the dog in the neighbour's garden at two o'clock in the morning. Bear had spotted a coyote and started barking to chase it away!
Bear's final surprise
The best was yet to come. On the final pages of the file, the neighbour had photographed Bear rummaging through a dustbin looking for a few treats. Whit was shocked to see her dog scavenging, as she had not expected that at all!
The neighbour ended his report on a warm note, however. He mentioned how much he likes Bear, though he would prefer to see him unsupervised a little less often.
Whit and her husband are now reinforcing their fence. They have also noticed that letting their chickens roam around the property helps keep Bear busy guarding them. We hope Bear stays safely at home from now on, and we wish him all the best in his role as chief chicken guardian!
