Five puppies abandoned in a bag receive unexpected help outside a supermarket

By Ludivine Mazzotti

Passers-by in Kansas, USA, made a heartbreaking discovery in a supermarket car park.

Five puppies, barely a week old, had been left completely to fend for themselves with no sign of their mother.

Concerned passers-by quickly reported the situation to the police and rescuers from the McPherson Animal Shelter.

A race against time

Rescuers rushed to the scene. As soon as they arrived, they realised that every second counted. The puppies were far too young to survive on their own. They could not regulate their body temperature, see, hear, or even go to the toilet without help.

Before long, rescuers were working in shifts to ensure the five tiny babies wanted for nothing. Their priority was simple: to give them the very best chance of survival after such a dreadful start to life.

A hopeful new beginning

While rescuers kept a close eye on the little pups, an investigation led to their mother being found. The mother dog, named Shrimpy, was brought to the shelter so she could nurse her puppies. She was absolutely overjoyed to be reunited with her babies, leaving the rescue team moved to tears.

The entire shelter community rallied together to raise funds for their care, donate supplies, and help with the rescue. Thanks to Shrimpy's maternal care and the dedication of the shelter team, the five puppies grew stronger week after week. You can see them being held by the police officers who helped rescue them in the photos below.

Today, the puppies have grown significantly and turned into happy, energetic young dogs. They will soon be ready to start their next chapter with their forever families!
