17 abandoned puppies wait for help: then a stranger changes everything (video)

By Ludivine Mazzotti

A passer-by witnessed a heartbreaking scene in a shop car park in Livermore, California.

The man discovered seventeen abandoned puppies, left to fend for themselves among the cars.

The pups were only a few weeks old.

A heartbreaking abandonment

Sadly, one of them was hit by a vehicle before it could be rescued. Fortunately, the other sixteen were saved in time thanks to the quick thinking of this man, who immediately took them to the East Bay SPCA shelters in Dublin and Oakland.

As soon as the pups arrived at the shelters, the veterinary teams began emergency care. They gave all the puppies a full veterinary examination and a behavioural assessment. The exams revealed that the puppies are about nine weeks old and are Border Collie crosses. Despite their terrible ordeal, the sixteen survivors are in good health.

Preparing for a new life

For now, the puppies are not yet up for adoption. Before they can join their future families, they need all the essential care for their well-being. The pups have therefore been prepared for their vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and neutering.

The charity's behaviourists have also started working with several of them to develop their social skills and help them learn to trust humans after such a traumatic start in life.

We hope they will grow in confidence, feel settled, and have fun, so they can join their forever families in the best possible way!
