When Alizée Cochard looks at her dog Lita, a Malinois cross, she can't help but smile. It's not just the love she has for her, but also her very particular mannerisms. Lita has rituals that strangely remind Alizée of another companion, a feline this time: Guapo, her childhood cat.
The way Lita rubs against her legs, how she curls up in a ball to sleep, or even some of her little noises... everything about her seems to be a distant, tender echo of her late cat. A coincidence so uncanny it feels almost magical, as reported by the website TDG.
A huge void to fill
Guapo's passing, after a battle with illness, had left a huge void in Alizée's heart. He had been a lifelong companion, a true member of the family. The grief was so heavy that she couldn't imagine ever loving another animal in the same way.
However, in December 2023, she found herself at the SPA de Bernex rescue centre in Switzerland. That's where she met Lita. It wasn't love at first sight, but something in the dog's eyes touched her. Without really knowing why, she decided to offer her a new life, and in doing so, give herself one too.
A sign from fate
As the weeks went by, the behavioural similarities between Lita and Guapo became undeniable. Amused and moved, Alizée began to see her dog as much more than just a new friend. It was as if a part of her beloved cat's soul had returned to her, in a different form.
This feeling was reinforced during a family crisis, when Alizée's father had a serious accident. Throughout this difficult time, Lita proved to be an invaluable source of emotional support, cuddling up to them and offering silent, powerful comfort. For Alizée, it's proof that some bonds are never truly broken.
