Jaclyn feeds the stray cats that live near her home, so she is used to seeing plenty of feline visitors.
However, she noticed a newcomer behaving very differently indeed.
A visitor like no other
This big cat, whom she named Charles, appeared regularly in the dead of night to eat the food Jaclyn left on her porch. Unlike the other local cats, however, he did not leave straight away...
After his meal, he would lie on the doormat for ages, as if he had finally found a place where he felt safe. Before long, Jaclyn's three indoor cats, tucked up warm inside, began watching Charles through the window.
A few days later, the cat approached the glass. He stared at Jaclyn and blinked slowly, a feline behaviour often interpreted as a sign of trust. For Jaclyn, this look was a real cry for help.
A second chance
The rescuer noticed quickly that the cat did not look well. Touched by his condition, she decided to rescue him and take him to the vet. Tests revealed that he had Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), a condition that weakens a cat's immune system. However, cats with FIV can live long lives if they stay safely indoors.
Without hesitation, Jaclyn decided to adopt Charles for good. After years of surviving outdoors, the old cat is finally discovering the comfort of a real home. Over the last few weeks, he has been growing slowly in confidence, enjoying cuddles from his new owner, and adapting more and more to his new life each day!
