Woman takes stray cat to the vet: what she discovers moves a whole family

By Elise Petter

In Isère, France, a cat who went missing for eleven months has finally been reunited with his family, thanks to a kind-hearted local resident and a microchip.

A devastating disappearance

When they went away for a short weekend, the feline’s owners had no idea that a single window shutter left slightly open would turn their lives upside down. Yoda, their beloved cat, took advantage of this brief lapse in attention to slip away into the wild, leaving his home in La Tour-du-Pin, Isère, in complete shock.

As soon as they returned, panic set in. Despite intensive searches across the whole area, their four-legged companion was nowhere to be found. As the months passed, despair took hold and the family even had to move house, consumed by guilt and grief—especially their 15-year-old son, who counted Yoda as his loyal best friend.

A life-changing act of kindness

Eleven long months later, as reported by the French newspaper Ouest-France, just when the family had given up hope, a miracle happened. A local resident, who was actually looking for her own missing cat, stumbled upon Yoda. Showing great common sense, she immediately took the cat to a local vet to check if he was microchipped.

By scanning the microchip, the clinic was able to contact his original owners. Overwhelmed with emotion and incredibly grateful to this caring stranger, the family were finally able to hold Yoda in their arms again. They have since urged everyone to remember just how important it is to get your pets microchipped.
