The lunchtime rush had only just finished when cafe staff noticed a very unusual noise. Between the hum of the fridges and the clattering of dishes, a faint, almost imperceptible crying could be heard. The owners soon located the source of the sound. It was coming from right inside the kitchen wall.
A race against time
Putting their ears to the wall, there was no doubt about it. A cat seemed to have slipped inside the wall cavities.
They cut a hole in the wall to try and reach the animal. Covered in plaster dust, the poor kitten was dehydrated and clearly unwell, needing immediate care.
“We knew that every minute counted. He was so small and vulnerable, and his eyes were crying out for help,” said one of the rescuers, who was still deeply moved by the experience.
On the road to recovery
The little miracle kitten received emergency first aid. He was rehydrated, his airways were cleared, and he was given treatment to stabilise his fragile health.
Thanks to the wonderful quick thinking of the cafe owners, who put a living creature's life before the state of their walls, the kitten is now well on the road to recovery.
