YouTuber finds lost dog while hiking and saves the day with an unlikely tool (video)

By Ludivine Mazzotti

Back in September, Jason Hawkins went for a hike to a hot spring in Oregon, USA.

Just as he started his hike, two walkers stopped him on the trail.

They asked him if he had lost his dog.

A lost dog in the woods

They told him a dog was wandering along the path and wouldn't let anyone get close. Jason didn't own a dog and had no idea who this one belonged to. He continued on his way cautiously, keeping a close eye on his surroundings for any sign of the lost animal.

After walking for about a quarter of a mile, Jason spotted a small dog staring at him from behind a rock. He tried to approach the little pup, but the dog was so terrified that he ran away every time Jason got close.

The dog ran deeper and deeper into the woods, which worried Jason greatly. Eventually, the dog grew tired and lay down in a clearing, allowing Jason to get closer. He noticed the dog was wearing a collar, confirming he belonged to someone.

Jason was determined to reunite the dog with his family, but he didn't know how to get him back. He had no food with him, and the dog was far too frightened to follow him.

An ingenious solution

After thinking long and hard, Jason had an idea. He decided to loop his camera tripod strap through the dog's collar to use as a makeshift lead. He wasn't sure if it would work, but thankfully, it did!

Surprisingly, the tripod "lead" seemed to calm the dog down, and he began walking along the trail without any stress. Jason led the dog back to the trailhead and contacted his owner. She arrived by car shortly after, incredibly grateful and immensely relieved to have her dog back. Well done, Jason, for this wonderful rescue!
