"We're still thinking about that call": dog locked in hot car sparks urgent rescue

By Ludivine Mazzotti

On 19th May, Dedham Animal Control in Massachusetts, USA, shared the story of a life-saving rescue.

Animal control officers were alerted by passers-by who had spotted a dog locked in a car parked in direct sunlight.

The call came just in time.

Left while shopping

The five-month-old puppy's owners had gone shopping at a retail park and left their dog locked inside the vehicle.

The temperature inside the car rose quickly, creating a life-threatening situation for the dog. By the time the officers managed to open the car, the temperature inside had already reached 38°C (100°F). This put the puppy at serious risk of heatstroke, or even cardiac arrest.

Saved in time

Fortunately, the pup, a Husky cross, was rescued in time. The animal control officers made a point of thanking the security services who assisted them during the rescue.

They also mentioned that the dog was still on their minds that evening. The situation could have turned into a nightmare if they hadn't received the report when they did.
