In the state of Arizona, USA, a resident of the town of Tolleson found a stray dog, as reported by The Dodo. As he got closer, the man was surprised to discover that she had clearly just had puppies. He then went to the Maricopa animal shelter to ask for help.
Once there, the rescuers couldn't find the new mum's puppies. Due to the weather conditions, they decided to take the mother to the shelter to protect her from the heat.
”She was lying on the ground and producing a lot of milk, so she was probably in some discomfort,” the shelter explained.
A lonely mother
Named Demi, the dog seemed heartbroken to be without her little ones. Miraculously, five days after she arrived, a passer-by discovered two puppies in the same area where Demi had been rescued.
The puppies were the spitting image of Demi, so the shelter staff hoped they were hers. However, they could only be sure after introducing Demi to the babies.
A joyful reunion
In a clip shared on Instagram, you can see Demi being reunited with her puppies. And as you'll see, the puppies immediately start to nurse.
The three dogs are now in a foster home, where they will continue to rest and recover before being put up for adoption. For now, they are enjoying some tender moments together and making up for lost time.
