She parks at a supermarket: what moves in the bushes gives her the fright of her life

By Ludivine Mazzotti•

A few days ago in California, a dog groomer stopped to do some shopping at a supermarket.

As she was pulling into the car park, she spotted some movement in the bushes...

It turned out to be a small dog hiding in the undergrowth near the shop.

A terrified little dog

The groomer approached him and discovered that the poor pup had been abandoned with all his belongings — namely a carrier and two bowls. The poor thing was so panicked that as his rescuer approached, he scrambled back inside his carrier to hide.

The young woman closed the carrier to keep him safe and took him to the nearest shelter for help. Unfortunately, this was a shelter that euthanises animals. When rescuers from Let’s Rescue Dogs found out about his plight, they decided to step in immediately. They went to collect the little pup, whom they named Benito.

Learning to trust again

The rescuers quickly realised that Benito needed time to relax and learn to trust again. He was placed with a foster family, where he was given a cosy space and proper food.

But it only took a simple toy to completely transform Benito's behaviour! The little dog immediately joined in the game and started playing tug-of-war. This first positive interaction made him feel safe enough to sit through a much-needed bath.

Once he was clean, Benito explored his foster family's garden. As you can see in the video below, the pup runs through the grass, plays with his new friends, and finally seems to realise he is safe. Benito is now ready to meet his forever family, and we hope he finds them very soon!
