They took the poor dog to the Angell Animal Medical Center.
His ribs and bones were all visible, which was a truly heartbreaking sight.
A stable condition
His body temperature was extremely low. Fortunately, the dog, who they named Balboa, was rescued just in time, and the medical team at the centre was able to stabilise his condition. He is also showing an interest in food, which is a very encouraging sign for his recovery.
However, it will take some time for Balboa to get back to a healthy weight. His rescuers need to be patient and reintroduce food slowly. They have decided to place Balboa in a suitable foster home, where he can receive all the care he needs. It will also be a place where he can relax and feel safe.
Making great progress
For now, the rescuers are focusing on gathering as much information as they can about Balboa's past. He appears to be a Cane Corso cross. They believe he had an owner who may have fallen on hard times and struggled to care for him.
On 6th May, the rescuers shared some wonderful news! Balboa has made excellent progress, gaining weight much faster than they expected. He will soon be neutered and will then be ready for adoption. This is fantastic news, and we are thrilled for Balboa!
