The dog waited patiently for three days before animal control came to collect him.
The German Shepherd was the sweetest, gentlest dog, curled up in a ball in a corner of the car park with his toys and a few pieces of food beside him.
A gentle soul
Despite the hostile and unfamiliar environment, it was clear the dog was gentle and affectionate. When rescuers took him to the shelter, the poor dog was so frightened that he wouldn't let anyone near him in his kennel. So, sadly, he was put on the euthanasia list.
It was a terribly unfair situation for the dog, facing certain death just because he was scared. Fortunately, Leanna Ayala, a photographer who specialises in animal portraits, shared his story on social media.
A forever home
Thanks to the power of social media, the dog was saved by a rescue centre in Washington. He was renamed Maverick, and on 5th May, he began the journey to his new foster home. The good news is that he has already been adopted into his forever home and is starting his new life with his family.
His new owners are very patient with him and are helping him gently adjust to life in a home. Maverick is finally safe and will never again have to wait on the streets, uncertain of his future. We wish the whole family much happiness and many wonderful adventures together.
