This pensioner had a brilliant idea for bringing a little comfort to abandoned cats.

The pensioner in this story decided to use his time to help animals. Curtis McIff, a volunteer at the Best Friends Animal Society in the US, now spends his days building furniture for cats.

What began as a personal woodworking project has now become a regular contribution to the animals' daily care, as reported by People magazine.

A spark of inspiration

After renovating his home, Curtis found he had some leftover materials and wondered if he could put them to good use.

So he decided to create "functional and durable furniture that offers both a place for enrichment and a space to rest" for the abandoned cats.

40 miniature chairs and 10 beds

He has designed colourful chairs where the cats can relax. To date, he has donated more than 40 miniature chairs and at least 10 beds to the shelter.

"It warms my heart to see them basking in the sun, lounging in one of my chairs," he said.
