Passerby spots plastic boxes dumped on the pavement and finds 26 cats inside

By Ludivine Mazzotti•

At around 1 pm on 30 September, a passerby made a particularly shocking discovery in an alleyway in Birmingham.

He spotted several pet carriers and other plastic boxes dumped between a bakery and a shop on the street.

The boxes had been thrown away amongst the rubbish.

Lives in danger

In total, the man counted 26 cats and kittens abandoned inside the boxes. Time was of the essence, as several cats appeared lifeless. Without delay, the passerby called the RSPCA to report the situation.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, they were deeply shocked. All of the cats were infested with fleas and severely underweight. They rushed the felines away to receive immediate treatment.

Two kittens in a very critical condition were transferred to the Birmingham Animal Hospital clinic. Fortunately, their health is gradually improving. The remaining 24 cats and kittens are currently under the care of the RSPCA.

An investigation is under way

The RSPCA has launched an investigation to identify the person responsible for this terrible abandonment. At present, officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to figure out who dumped the animals in broad daylight on a busy street.

This shocking discovery comes just three days after another abandonment in Birmingham. On 27 September, six kittens were found in a crate by the roadside. Rescuers suspect the two incidents could be linked. They are urging anyone with information to get in touch. We hope all these little creatures can soon recover from their ordeal.
