In New York, a ginger cat who had taken up residence in a tyre shop was rescued by the organisation Little Wanderers NYC.
As reported by the website LoveMeow, the limping tomcat would approach passers-by, trying to get food or attention.
Named Henry, the feline was in a pitiful state. His coat was covered in dirt and he was missing several teeth. The poor thing had worms, fleas, and also seemed to be suffering from an ear infection. His left paw was also severely injured.
The road to recovery
Henry was taken straight to the vets, as is standard procedure. He underwent surgery to have his injured paw amputated.
Henry's story was shared on social media. When Colleen discovered his plight, she immediately fell in love with him.
"I believe it was fate. When I saw the fear and pain in his eyes, I knew I had to help him," Colleen told Love Meow.
A happy new beginning
As soon as he arrived in his new home, Henry immediately felt at ease. Colleen would even sing him songs and tell him little stories.
After a few months, once Henry had completely settled into his new life, Colleen's family realised his name didn't quite fit his personality. "His Aunt Shareen chose the name Clancy, which means 'red-haired warrior'. He seems to love his new name and is already responding to it."
