Two stray cats rescued from garage: their first night in a home is a tear-jerker

By Ludivine Mazzotti

In March, in New Jersey, USA, some stray cats were found living amongst the rubbish in a car repair shop.

The cats were surviving in incredibly harsh conditions, surrounded by snow, rubbish, and with very little food.

The NYC Animal Rescue Group was alerted by a local resident, and rescuers quickly stepped in to save the cats.

Safe at last

Within two days, the volunteers managed to bring several cats to safety, including two inseparable sisters named Jetta and Lexus. The cats were very thin, covered in fleas, and suffering from eye infections. They received immediate veterinary care and were treated, dewormed, vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. Gradually, they started to gain weight and get back to full health.

Once they had received their initial treatment, Jetta and Lexus went to a foster home with Sophie. It was here that their real transformation began. They discovered a cosy bed, toys, and most importantly, human kindness. Day by day, their shyness gave way to immense affection.

A forever home

Playful and curious, Jetta and Lexus quickly explored every nook and cranny of their foster home. They spent their days chasing toys, asking for cuddles, and sleeping snuggled up together. Their bond was so strong that the rescue organisation wanted them to be adopted as a pair.

Eventually, the perfect family came forward, much to the delight of their rescuers! As soon as they arrived in their new home, the two sisters immediately felt settled, as if they had always lived there.

Their new owners renamed them Margot and Poppy, marking the start of their new life. After growing up surrounded by rubble, cold, and filth, they finally discovered the comfort, safety, and love of a family who chose to keep them together.
