As she started her day in Louisiana, USA, a homeowner was surprised to notice an unfamiliar trailer abandoned on her property. Intrigued by a bulky shape hidden under a pink tarpaulin, she walked over to inspect the load. She gently lifted the cover and was astonished to find a pet carrier containing eight helpless kittens.
Immediate care from a local shelter
Faced with this urgent situation, the resident promptly contacted the River Cities Humane Society for Cats, who dispatched a team to the scene without delay. Covered in fleas, the young animals appeared to come from different litters, ranging in age from one to two months old.
Neither the shelter nor the landowner could determine who had left the trailer there, or how long the animals had been trapped inside.
A plea for responsible ownership and neutering
Now safe and warm at the rescue centre, the eight kittens are gradually regaining their strength and thriving under the care of the staff. They will not be put up for adoption for about two months, giving them time to grow, receive their vaccinations, and be spayed or neutered.
Following the rescue, the shelter wanted to remind everyone of the vital importance of cat spaying and neutering. This helps prevent the spread of unwanted pets and stops litters from being dumped by the roadside.
