He had noticed three stray cats in his garden.
There were two kittens, around two months old, who wouldn't leave the side of an adult ginger and white cat.
A case of mistaken identity
The rescuers knew the centre was already full to capacity, but they couldn't turn their backs on a mother cat and her two little ones. So, they went to collect the family as quickly as they could.
However, it didn't take long for the rescuers to realise this wasn't the mother cat, or even a female at all. The information the resident had given them wasn't quite right, but he couldn't have known, as the tomcat was behaving in a very "motherly" way towards the kittens.
A protective tomcat
The kittens had latched onto a male cat who had taken on the role of their protector while they were living on their own. The little ones were named Dobby and Gremlin. They were dirty and very thin, but thankfully, they were now safe at the rescue centre.
The adult cat was named Linkle. Rescuers estimate he is about 18 months old. He shows great patience with the little ones. In fact, his foster family caught him doing something very affectionate towards the kittens, and it melted their hearts. Linkle, Dobby and Gremlin are all waiting at the centre for their forever homes. We hope they find them very soon!
