Jimmy is a young tabby cat who lived in a shop in Brooklyn, New York (USA). According to Greenpoint Cats, a charity dedicated to rescuing vulnerable cats, she was the fifth cat to be taken in by the business in six years.
Unlike the previous cats, Jimmy, still a kitten, had a habit of regularly escaping from the shop. The volunteers weren't surprised by this behaviour, as she hadn't been spayed and was in heat. The charity then offered to arrange for her spaying.
A trip to the vet... followed by a sudden rejection
After several weeks of discussion, Jimmy was finally taken to the vet. It was agreed that a shop employee would adopt her after she recovered. However, the treatment she needed turned out to be more extensive than expected.
Just as the cat had finally recovered and was ready to go to her new home, the charity's president, Becky Wisdom, received a message that changed everything. In a simple text, the employee explained that he no longer wanted to take her.
His reason? He was worried about her past health problems, but more importantly, a friend had offered him a pedigree cat (a Persian). With just a few words on a screen, the little tabby's future was shattered in favour of looks. This rejection "by text" left the rescue team deeply shocked.
A young cat now ready for her forever home
Since then, the charity has taken over her care. Jimmy doesn't know she's been rejected, but Greenpoint Cats is determined to ensure her next home will be her last. Becky Wisdom explains that the organisation has been helping cats in New York shops for years, whether they are sick, injured, or homeless.
Now nine months old, Jimmy is doing much better. Her mouth ulcers have healed and the inflammation has significantly reduced, meaning she won't need dental surgery for now. Described as gentle, affectionate, and sociable, she gets on well with other cats and even dogs. She is now ready to join a family that is prepared to make a full commitment to her.
