Rare ginger cat gives her all for her kittens, now she's hoping for a home of her own

By Elodie Carpentier

Found wandering the streets of Tampa, Florida, this skeletal two-year-old ginger cat had sacrificed everything to keep her three kittens safe. Now that her entire litter has been adopted, this rare marmalade-coated gem is hoping to find a family of her own.

A mother's sacrifice

A ginger cat was recently taken in by Welcome to the Zoo, a foster-based rescue network in Florida. As reported by the website LoveMeow, the feline weighed just over 6 pounds and was nothing but skin and bone.

Yet, despite her hunger and exhaustion, the cat, named Violet, was accompanied by three kittens.

A genetic rarity

Beyond her extraordinary maternal instinct, Violet is also intriguing because of her genetics. In the feline world, the vast majority of ginger cats are male; only one in five is female.

Thanks to the constant care from her foster family and plenty of food, the little family regained their strength. The kittens all managed to find their own homes.

Sadly, Violet was the only one left behind. Now fully recovered, she is waiting for someone who can see beyond her being an adult cat and give her the home she deserves.
