Last winter, an ordinary walk in Poland could have ended in tragedy, if it weren't for the exceptional nose of a four-legged friend.

During a walk last winter, the dog began to act strangely, pulling the boy towards a ditch.

After ignoring this behaviour for a while, it was on the way home that the boy noticed a small head poking out of the water. He then realised that a helpless dog was in the ditch, its body completely submerged.

A heroic duo

He immediately ran to get help from his family. Everyone quickly arrived at the scene to pull the dog out of the water. The animal was suffering from hypothermia and refused to eat, but thanks to their swift action, he was saved.

The family took the dog to a vet. Thanks to photos posted on social media, his owner was found.

A future hero in the making

The rescue operation, in which the whole family took part, was a success. The hero of the day, a Labrador named Charlie, was rewarded with treats.

The boy and his family's actions have been widely admired. The young boy is now considering a career in the emergency services or as a vet. A wonderful calling may have just been discovered.
