For the past three years, Daisy Phillips has shared her life with an adorable dog named Goose. Through walks, cuddles, and games, the pair quickly became inseparable.

And Daisy soon realised that Goose was no ordinary dog.

An unexpected hero

A few days ago, while they were on their usual walk along a forest trail in Texas, USA, Phillips began to notice Goose pulling her off the path and into the woods.

"At first, I didn’t think much of it, as he prefers to walk me rather than the other way around," Phillips told The Dodo. "I just assumed he’d caught the scent of another animal, but I soon realised it was much more than that."

But the situation quickly took a turn. Daisy spotted a pink crate at the bottom of a small ditch and understood that her dog's behaviour wasn't random. He had sensed that something was wrong.

"I thought someone had just dumped their rubbish in the ditch," said Phillips. "I looked closer and saw eyes staring back at me!"

Inside the crate were four starving kittens in desperate need of help. Phillips and her family immediately called the local animal control service for assistance.

Shortly after, the four kittens were taken to the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center. The volunteers there had no doubt: this was a clear case of abandonment.

A fresh start

The kittens, now named Ginger, Sporty, Baby, and Posh, are receiving medical care and are reportedly on the road to recovery.

For now, the kittens aren't quite ready for adoption, but they will be soon, just as soon as the little ones are ready to start their new lives.
