The woman's story left them speechless.
She explained that her neighbour had asked her to look after two dogs, and she had agreed.
A dog-sitting disaster
However, the neighbour never returned to collect her dogs. It turned out both dogs were pregnant and gave birth soon after. The kind woman quickly found herself overwhelmed, left to care for two new mothers and their 21 puppies!
The woman brought the enormous litter to the rescue centre. When the puppies arrived, the staff were so moved that no one dared to speak. The puppies had been transported in a huge box that broke as the team tried to lift it. In the end, they had to gently drag it inside.
A huge rescue effort
Inside the box, the 21 puppies were all jumbled together. The rescue team had to sort them by size to identify which puppies belonged to which mother. The little ones were dirty and smelly, and both mums were covered in fleas. Thanks to the dedicated care of the rescuers, all the dogs were soon washed, treated, and fed.
The mothers and their puppies were understandably stressed by the whole ordeal. To help them recover away from the hustle and bustle of the kennels, the rescuers decided to place them with several foster families. It was the best possible solution. The mums are now able to rest and relax, while the puppies are proving to be lively, playful, and full of curiosity!
