On 13th May, Sara Sharp received a call for help. The founder of the Community Cat Club, a rescue based in South Jersey, USA, was told about a mother cat and her kittens who needed a safe place to go.

Sara learned that there were five kittens, about four weeks old, to be taken in along with their mum.

A surprising discovery

An estate agent found the little family in a block of flats.

When they arrived, the rescuers soon discovered that the mother cat was actually... a tomcat!

At first glance, it seemed this adult cat watching over the kittens was their mother. But in reality, there was no sign of the real mum anywhere.

The rescue team searched everywhere for her, but she could not be found and never returned to the building.

A gentle babysitter

The rescuers decided to name the cat Mr. Mom. The tomcat was very gentle with the little kittens as they snuggled up to him.

No one knows how the kittens ended up with Mr. Mom.

The kittens have since been placed in a foster home, as they still have a lot of growing and socialising to do.

Mr. Mom can now relax, his kitten-sitting duties are over.

These days, he spends most of his time napping in his basket, dreaming of his forever family. We hope he finds one very soon!
