A tricky search has thankfully come to a happy end. On Friday, 7th February 2025, the gendarmerie and fire brigade in the Ardennes region of France were called out following a report of a missing person.
As soon as the alarm was raised by the missing person's family, teams were dispatched to the scene. They were joined by the dog unit from Rethel to maximise the chances of finding the individual as quickly as possible.
A police dog picks up the scent
Several patrols were deployed, and the gendarmerie's Malinois dog suddenly picked up a trail to follow. Equipped with a drone, the police officers were able to support the dog in its search, alongside the fire brigade who were using a thermal imaging camera.
A successful team effort
Several hours after the search began, the missing person was found safe and sound in the Exermont woods, about a mile from their vehicle.
Following the successful mission, the Ardennes gendarmerie praised its teams on its Facebook page. It also highlighted the importance of good cooperation between the different units, each with its own vital role to play.
