When one cat becomes an emotional support animal for another, it makes for a truly beautiful story.
As reported by People magazine, two cats named Maggie and Lily were taken in by the Second Chance Animal Services shelter in Massachusetts, USA.
The pair were surrendered by their former owner, who had to move to a home that didn't allow pets.
A special bond
The shelter staff soon realised that Lily was suffering from progressive retinal atrophy, an incurable hereditary disease that causes gradual and continuous vision loss.
A feline guide
Now completely blind, Lily was able to navigate her surroundings thanks to Maggie's help. "Maggie rose to the challenge, walking alongside her to guide her, acting as a sort of guide cat. She calls out to her when Lily seems stuck, or even nudges her with her nose," explains Lisey Good, Head of Development and Communications at Second Chance.
Naturally, the two cats had to be adopted together. That's why they waited several weeks before finding the perfect family for them.
