The PAWS shelter in central Texas, USA, noticed that one of their residents had a rather peculiar habit...

One of the cats in the cattery would stand motionless in front of the glass door, watching the shelter staff.

The cat, named Paisley, would stare at them from across the room until they got that feeling of being watched...

An unwavering gaze

His piercing stare might have unsettled most people. But thankfully, the shelter staff knew him well! It was just Paisley's little habit. He would sit by the door of his enclosure for hours on end, hoping his future family would spot him.

The staff knew they had to capture this on camera. So, they spent a whole day filming Paisley every time they caught him waiting by the door with his intense, fixed stare.

A viral video and a new home

The shelter posted the video of Paisley on social media. It quickly went viral, leading to hundreds of adoption enquiries. One couple even drove for four hours to PAWS with their six-year-old son, determined to adopt him!

The family was thrilled to welcome their new furry friend, and the gentle Paisley, now renamed Shadow, was just as happy. He is absolutely delighted to be exploring his new surroundings. Instead of spending hours staring at a glass door, hoping for affection from passers-by, Shadow now spends his days snuggled up with his favourite people. What a wonderful adoption story!
