When it came to socialising her kittens, this mother cat had some help from a very special “auntie”.

Any mother of young children will tell you... it's never easy looking after babies, especially when there are several of them. A helping hand is always welcome.

A rescued feline family

The mother cat we're about to introduce you to would certainly agree. A few weeks ago, a cat named Smokey arrived at her foster home with her six little ones.

Asa, a volunteer with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington in Virginia, USA, took the whole little family into her care.

As reported by the website LoveMeow, the mother cat immediately felt at ease in her new home. She was very relaxed and quickly settled into caring for her kittens. Although the new mum was doing a wonderful job with her babies, she wasn't against a little help.

She particularly appreciated it when Asa would step in to give her a break, allowing her to stretch her legs and have a few minutes to herself.

The mother cat finds an unlikely babysitter

The weeks went by and the little ones grew. When it was time to socialise them, Asa decided to call on her secret weapon: her dog, Kona.

Kona is an adorable pooch who loves spending time with rescue cats. She has no trouble mothering them at all. It didn't take long for the little kittens to start playfully pestering their new “auntie”.

“She seems quite relieved whenever I let Kona into the foster room. I think she sees Kona as a babysitter, and it’s like she’s saying: ‘Thank God, you’re here!’”, explains Asa.
