It was an unpleasant surprise for the team at the SPA de Roanne, a rescue centre in the Loire department of France. The week got off to a difficult start on a Monday in July 2024, as the first staff members arrived for their shift.
In front of the shelter, a dog had been left with nothing but a bag of kibble for company. And while it's sadly common for pets to be dumped during the summer, this particular case was especially baffling.
A shocking discovery
Every summer, countless animals are cowardly abandoned at the gates of rescue centres, often under the cover of darkness. The experience is obviously traumatic for them, especially as they are exposed to all sorts of dangers and often wait all night for their owners to return.
For this brave dog, being abandoned at the shelter gates was even more heartbreaking because of one key detail: she wasn't tied up.
An incredible display of loyalty
Simply lying in front of the gate of the SPA de Roanne, the poor dog had probably obeyed her owner's command to stay. Loyal and trusting, this beautiful Shepherd cross patiently waited for her owner to come back, but of course, they never did.
The team at the SPA de Roanne took her in and placed her safely in a kennel. She never understood what had happened to her... until her life changed for the better when she finally found her forever family.
