Carlos Fresco wanted to treat his 10-year-old Labradoodle, Monty, one last time. The duo had enjoyed many hikes together and Monty loved exploring the hills.
So Carlos decided to take him to the top of his favourite mountain in Brecon, Wales. But he had to work out the best way to carry him to the summit... This happened two years ago, but the story remains just as moving today.
A very comfortable wheelbarrow
Carlos could see that Monty was very weak and wouldn't be able to walk to the top. He had the idea of building him a cosy nest for the hike.
He put soft blankets in a wheelbarrow before settling Monty in so he'd be comfortable during the climb.
An unforgettable hike
Even though he was weak, Monty enjoyed all the attention from the hikers who passed him on the mountain.
Passers-by were both delighted that he could enjoy the fresh air and scenery, but also very sad to see him in such a frail state.
Monty passed away at the foot of his owner's bed after the duo were able to spend Father's Day together.
Carlos is very grateful to have shared 10 years of his life with his brave dog, and we're sure he continues to watch over his owner!
