Early in the morning of 28th October, a volunteer at Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions in Las Vegas, United States, discovered a crate left outside the entrance. Inside was a beautiful Scottish Fold, carefully settled with a blanket, a small plate of salmon and prawns, and a $60 note. But it was the message left alongside him that broke the volunteers' hearts.
"He's a good cat, but we have to move. He cost $3,000! Give him to a nice family. He has all his vaccinations, he's neutered, but he doesn't get on well with other cats. Chronic urinary problems," the handwritten note read.
A sad story with a happy ending
The cat, named Bobo, appeared to be in good health and was affectionate with the volunteers straight away. Touched by his big blue eyes and the folded ears characteristic of his breed, they immediately set about finding him a new home.
Just a few days later, a family fell in love with him after seeing his photo on the rescue centre's website. Bobo was adopted on 2nd November, and his new owners have given updates on him. He's still a bit shy, but he's settling in and starting to purr with happiness.
Whilst Bobo's story ended well, those running the rescue centre point out that abandonments of this kind are on the rise. Several cats had been left there in the days leading up to his arrival. But thanks to the kindness of the volunteers, Bobo has now found a loving home and a new life.
