When Eleanor saw a black and white cat waiting outside her door, she felt a strange sense of déjà vu. It was only after taking him in that she understood why.

One September evening, Eleanor discovered a stray cat sitting outside the patio doors of her home in Brooklyn, United States. The black and white tom looked familiar. She had already spotted him with two kittens she had taken in a few months earlier. Usually wary, he let her approach him and accepted a tin of food. Then he stayed there, motionless, as if waiting for something.

The next day, the cat was still outside the door. Worried, Eleanor took him to the vet. The diagnosis came back: he was FIV positive (feline AIDS) and infested with fleas. Knowing that a poorly cat would have little chance of being adopted, she and her partner decided to offer him a home for life. They named him Hank.

The cat who found his family again

A few weeks later, whilst watching old videos, Eleanor made a heartbreaking discovery. Hank wasn't a stranger. Back in 2023, when she lived in a different flat, an identical black and white cat used to come begging for food at her window. The markings on his coat left no doubt—it was definitely him.

Since then, Hank has settled perfectly into his new life. The once fearful cat has become a real velcro kitty, gentle, affectionate and full of trust. For Eleanor, there's no doubt about it: Hank never forgot them, he simply found them again.
