Whilst innocently looking at her old home on Google Street View, she stumbled upon a moving image.

Sometimes nostalgia takes hold of us, and we might feel the urge to revisit our past for a few moments. This is probably what happened to this young woman who decided one day to look at photos of her old home using the Google Street View tool.

Whilst she was probably expecting to see fond memories of her parents' house come flooding back, she wasn't necessarily prepared to notice a detail that would tug at her heartstrings quite so much.

Images dating back to 2015

Whilst most Google Street View images are updated regularly, there are more remote areas where this happens less frequently. For this young woman's former home, the images dated back nearly a decade, so she was certainly going to see the house as she had known it.

However, she didn't expect this level of immersion. In the driveway leading to the house, whilst you can see her parents' car, there's also another far more striking presence.

In these images that take us back to the young woman's childhood, we can see her cat waiting for his little owner to come home from school.

Having since passed away, the moggy left an enduring memory in the young woman's mind. She couldn't help but share these moving photos, noting that her cat must now be waiting for her in another life.

Moved by the story, over 1.2 million internet users were intrigued by this discovery. Nearly 2,000 comments were posted under the publication, and many viewers shared their own experiences. "This reminds me of my Dad who was also on Google Maps in the driveway in front of the house. He died in 2018, and since then, Google has taken new photos of the whole neighbourhood. I miss being able to look at those images."

Fortunately, the moggy's owner had the good sense to take a screenshot of these images from the past, and will probably look at them from time to time to remember that wonderful era.
