Walking into this empty house in Southern California (USA), Suzette Hall immediately sensed something was wrong. Concerned neighbours had alerted her to a strange presence in the property since the former occupants had left a week earlier. They spoke of noises, whimpering... as if someone was still trapped inside.
What they eventually discovered left them deeply shocked. Among the rubbish abandoned on the floor, a small white dog, unrecognisable beneath a thick layer of matted fur, was trying to survive, alone and starving.
Left to fend for herself for a week
Suzette Hall's assessment was clear: the animal had neither food nor water. Her coat was so knotted she could barely move. The dreadlocks formed painful clumps that pulled on her skin and even prevented her from seeing properly.
When contacted by the neighbours, the family who had lived there offered a chilling justification: "We had nowhere to take her." The little dog had been left behind like an unwanted object. But her distress didn't escape Suzette Hall, founder of the rescue organisation Logan's Legacy 29, who immediately went to help her.
A look full of gratitude
When Suzette opened the door, the dog's reaction moved her deeply. Despite the abandonment, despite the pain, the animal immediately understood someone had come to save her. She let herself be approached, then picked up, as if she'd been waiting for nothing else. "I've never seen a dog so grateful," the rescuer said.
Named Eyelit, the dog was rushed to the vet. The examination revealed the extent of the neglect. Her matted, tangled fur formed knots so tight they irritated her skin deeply. Despite everything, Eyelit was already giving kisses to those caring for her.
The next day, she received a soothing bath and a complete grooming. Within hours, the transformed little dog regained a youthful appearance, full of life and energy. "She couldn't even see the world through the thickness of her fur... today, she sees. She feels. And she shines," Suzette wrote on Facebook.
Eyelit now lives with a foster family whilst waiting to find her forever home. She enjoys each day a little more in this new beginning, unaware that the best is yet to come.
