A driver in southern Germany filmed a dramatic encounter with a large predator in broad daylight, prompting concern among local hunters and authorities.

The incident occurred near Schopfloch, about 13 kilometres from the popular holiday town of Freudenstadt in the Black Forest.

Timm R., from Sulz-Fischingen, was driving along a country road when he spotted a large animal emerging from the forest, dragging a carcass.

“It was so big. There was no question it was a dog,” said Timm, who quickly began filming what he recognised as a wolf.

The predator was seen carrying a dead, bloodied deer in its mouth, a scene that could have come from a nature documentary.

After posting the video on Facebook, Timm’s footage caught the attention of a local hunter, who promptly alerted the district office. Wildlife authorities responded by dispatching an officer to investigate.

Wolf tracks discovered at scene

The officer met Timm at the location of the sighting, where they discovered clear wolf tracks, confirming the animal’s identity. According to Timm, the wolf appeared calm and moved slowly, behaviour experts say is typical of a wolf that feels secure in its territory.

It remains unclear whether the wolf belongs to the trio of known male wolves living in the Black Forest.
