A Stockport man believes his cat Millie may be the oldest living feline in the world, crediting her longevity to a diet of prawns, salmon, and bottled water.

Leslie Greenhough, 70, said Millie, a tortoiseshell cat, was first owned by his late wife Paula, who got her as a kitten in 1995.

Although he cannot officially prove her age, Leslie recently celebrated Millie’s 30th birthday with a special cream cake.

“It was a fantastic day – she licked all the cream off,” he said. “I’d love to get her in the Guinness Book of Records, but I don’t have the paperwork.”

Strong bond

Leslie, a former storekeeper, said Millie became an indoor cat after being bullied by others, which he believes has contributed to her longevity.

“She’s very shy, but we have a strong bond,” he said, adding that Millie comforted him after Paula’s death in 2020.

“She knew my wife wasn’t well,” he said. “Now, it’s just the two of us.”

Happy Birthday, Millie.
