As he approached, he spotted something furry cowering in between the furniture.
He was shocked to discover a 10-week-old puppy sheltering between an old sofa and a broken television.
An urgent rescue
His workday was about to begin, but he couldn't leave the puppy behind. He loaded him into his truck, and left the heating on throughout the day.
The kind samaritan decided to name the puppy Odie, taking him home to his family later that day.
There, they fed and cuddled him, before reaching out to This Is Houston for help.
Finding his forever family
The organisation usually takes in adult dogs with significant medical issues, but they couldn't say no after seeing a photo of Odie.
They immediately arranged a foster home, to help the little puppy learn all about life in a home.
Odie's confidence soared in his foster home, and he soon became firm friends with their own dog, Peppa. His days are now filled with play, food and cuddles.
Odie's carers are certain he will soon find the perfect family, who are ready to cherish him for the rest of his days.
